Office 365 Distilled EP 20: Applying Baseline Governance to all the O365 Apps pt.2

Marijn and Steve look forward to Ignite 2019, and discuss how they are going to celebrate the first anniversary of the podcast. After that, the manbun discussion and the live podcast at SPSBE they get back to the baseline governance journey, as they did in part 1 you can listen to here.

As we concluded last episode, why would we ever use Sway? At least we found a good description to what it is: Scrolling telling. It does allow you to drop a bunch of text in and it will give you some creativity ideas for publishing.

On the other hand, PowerPoint has the “Design Ideas” which does the same thing.

This is the video source for your SharePoint pages. On the other hand it is the storage for your recorded meetings, broadcasts, vlogging. But, it is expensive space that is not included with your other Office 365 storage.

It is on when you use Bing search. What you need to do is to communicate this clearly if you are rolling this out.

Let it grow, do the monitoring.

No brainer, huge return. Roll it out in the beginning. There are almost no governance settings, just set it up.

Office client apps

How can you not roll this out?

Do you do web apps? Or the client apps?  This comes down to licenses.

What about updates? Do you want the montly or semi-yearly update?

Make sure that you have testers. Macro’s and specific details that are used in organisations have bitten me in my ass multiple times.

Just let it go. Turn it on, turn it off. Your choice.

Power Platform

There is no real way to turn it off.

Steve’s baseline is turn off all connectors except SharePoint and Exchange. Expand from there.

So many decisions to take on this one. Does it even belong in the baseline list?

External access – yes or no ?
Who can create sites?
What are site owner responsibilities ?
Content Types?
Retention labels ?

Voice? PBX connection ?
Teamify for our groups?
What connectors do I allow ?

This slide from Mark Kashman and Melissa Hubbard gives you 6 questions to ask when you roll out Teams:
