A question that does rise from time to time (especially from Project Managers or Management) is the ability to display MS Project files into SharePoint. After all, SharePoint does integrate MS Office files very nicely, so it must be very easy to do this as well ? Well, no, not at first sight..but you do have some great options out-of-the-box, and even some better options with 3d party solutions!
Dux, the guy who brought you “SharePoint for Project Management” did it once again by writing a very comprehensible blogpost about the possibilities to integrate your Project Plan into SharePoint.
Briefly, from good to best:
1 – put the .mpp file in a document library
2 – import the mpp file via an excel file as a custom list
3 – use MS Project Server
4 – create nifty dashboards that display all relevant information
Ofcourse, he also touches the subject of 3d party tools, like Project Publisher.
I myself have used IntelliGant before which is also a great solution that synchs your tasks in the mpp to a SharePoint task list (and back).
Very interesting article. One additional third party solution is a Microsoft Project Viewer Web Part provided by http://www.projectviewercentral.com
Is easy to configure and allows SharePoint users to view mpp files stored in a document library.
Cheers
